The Arc of Dunn County, Inc. was
organized as a member unit of
The Arc-Wisconsin and
The
Arc-National in 1967. The group was organized by a group of
parents out of a need for programs for pre-school children.
The Arc began to look into how to start a program for adults with
developmental disabilities. The first Adult Advocacy Center began
with the help of a grant. The Arc is proud of having a big hand in
building Indianhead Enterprises, Inc. Today, Indianhead is its own
non-profit organization and has its own board of directors.
In 1987, The Arc contacted
United Way to become a United Way Agency. As a result The Arc
was able to open an office. A lending library was started, members
had a place to meet, parents and professionals had a place to come
and talk, scholarships were given out, and a newsletter is sent out
once per month.
The Arc Residential Program began
in 1987. The Arc believes each individual can live within the
community with a support system. Each individual expresses their
preferences, values and interests. Each person is encouraged to try
new experiences and to live their to the fullest within their
community.
